G12 - IB HISTORY Boot Camp:

Topics to be covered:

  • The Move to Global War and Paper 1 practice
  • Authoritarian States and Paper 2 practice
  • Cold War and Paper 2 practice

The exam papers account for 75% and 80% of the SL and HL courses respectively.

The first exam is source based, and students are expected to demonstrate their ability to use historical sources. The 2ndand 3rd exam papers require students to write essays; students should be able to formulate a thesis and use their knowledge and analytical skills to support it.

Students have to analyze not just the events per se, but also the historical significance of them. Therefore, it is essential that you develop your ability to analyze evidence in relation to the question asked and your essay writing skills.

During this Boot Camp we will work on improving your analytical abilities as well as the structure of your responses.

In addition to the specific history topics mentioned, students will acquire skills in:

  • Structuring learning material
  • Techniques for a better understanding and memorization of the material

About our Instructor:

Ioana Anghel, who is one of our dedicated IB coaches, is a highly experienced academic performance strategist. Beside her specific interest and focus in coaching IB students in History, Psychology and TOK, she is a Learning Techniques and Lateral Thinking scholar and hence a great fit for all types of students but also those with procrastination and focusing challenges or students who sometimes simply feel ‘overwhelmed’ and stressed.

Ioana carries a Bachelor in Psychotherapy and is currently completing her master’s degree in Psychotherapy at the Sigmund Freud University, Vienna. She specializes in the areas of Systemic Therapy and Child & Youth Psychotherapy.

She is passionate about working with teenagers and her main interest lies in unleashing students’ creativity, independent thinking and self-confidence. She knows how important a good relationship is when working with students and she helps students trust and believe in themselves whilst learning how to work ‘in-depth’ and take full ownership of their work. Together with IBWISE she developed the unique method “Learning Smart”, which is tailored specifically to the needs of IB students, who are expected to handle large amounts of workload.

Both workshops will start with some general IB structure and time management strategies. Participating students will receive complementary handouts.
